How You Can Make Moving Day Less Chaotic

Moving Day Doesn’t Have to Be Chaos

By David Thomas, Phoenix Area Realtor

Moving day is exciting… but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. After helping so many families relocate across the Phoenix area, I’ve seen what makes a move smooth—and what creates stress fast.

Here are a few moving day strategies I always recommend to my clients:

1. Pack an “Open First” Box

Before the movers arrive, pack one box with essentials: phone chargers, toiletries, snacks, medications, coffee supplies, paper towels, and a change of clothes. Trust me—you don’t want to search through 40 boxes for toothpaste at 10 PM.

2. Label Like You Mean It

Don’t just write “Kitchen.” Write “Kitchen – Plates & Coffee Maker.” The more specific you are, the faster unpacking becomes.

3. Beat the Arizona Heat ☀️

Phoenix moves in the summer can be brutal. Start early, keep water everywhere, and protect candles, electronics, and anything heat-sensitive.

4. Take Photos Before Disconnecting Electronics

TV cords and Wi-Fi setups can turn into a puzzle later. A quick photo saves a lot of frustration.

5. Change the Locks First

One of the smartest first-day investments is rekeying or changing locks for peace of mind.

6. Give Yourself Grace

The first night may feel messy, emotional, or exhausting—and that’s normal. Home takes shape over time.

Moving isn’t just about boxes. It’s about starting a new chapter. My goal is always to help clients feel prepared, confident, and excited for what’s next.

🏡 If you’re planning a move in the Phoenix area, I’d love to help make the process easier.
